The association grants professional membership and certification at the national level to those phlebotomists who have a proven track record in these areas. Membership demands are tough, requiring three letters of recommendation, more than two years of full-time experience and several CEU’s. However, the aspiring member can instead challenge these requirements by taking the 240-question certification exam, which is great news for PCT students.
The NAPTP recently granted PCT permission to offer this challenging exam to students of the Phlebotomy and Cardio-Phlebotomy Technician Certification Courses based upon its evaluation of PCT's rigorous curriculum and clinical placement. NAPTP board members decided that PCT met and exceeded the national standards in training methods and authorized our professional instructors to administer the exam.
The NAPTP isn’t only interested in its members’ ability to pass the exam, but highly values how their ethical principles guide them in their daily jobs. The association understands that a code of ethics and scope of practice must be in place for professional phlebotomists to perform at their best.
